It seems that beginning a blog would be like tuning a piano. I’ve never tuned one, nor could I even find the right pitch in a given instance. But as I imagine the process, the tuner must be so precise with each of so many strings—he probably can imagine the wonder of their orchestral emittance as they are joined in playing later, but his immediate work with tone must be done first. So I type in that effort.
What do I imagine for this blog? Today I saw about two hundred swallows swarm to a tree, their cacophony seemed music to me—the wonder of each so free joining with the others for the accomplishment of community. That’s what I imagine here on these pages—that it’s not a blog of one person, but a conversation of many, all for the hope of making change in the current status quo of abuse. There is much that can be accomplished in our conversations. One may have an idea—and flies to the tree (or blog) to share. As the others hear, they chime in with their own ideas, or refinements on the idea at hand—and an effort grows toward action. As our efforts chime, fine music will fill the voids. Let’s take the journey down this road together.

Sherry Green received her masters degree in writing at Portland State University in Oregon. Her memoir, Child Alone, recounts a lifetime of working to overcome childhood abuses—go into the mind of the child, and then into the mind of the adult of that same child. Child abuse is an epidemic today, and must change.
